Living in Waco

Waco is more than a stopping point on I-35 between Austin and Dallas. Take a closer look at this vibrant city and you'll discover that it maintains a sunny outlook on the future largely due to its deeply rooted past. There's lots of history to behold here, from the historic structures and homes like the Earle Harrison House with its ties to the Civil War, to the Baylor University campus that was founded in 1845, before the city itself was established.

There's also the natural beauty of the area, and the best example of our connection with nature is illustrated by the Brazos River and all of the activities like boating, fishing and swimming that take place in and round this careening body of water. And, for all that Waco offers, perhaps it is best known for the fact that the highly popular Dr. Pepper soft drink was born here. An invention by pharmacist Charles Alderton, the concoction was originally inspired by the smells in Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store, where the young Alderton worked. That spark of inspiration not only led to a nation of Peppers, it connected Waco to the world's consciousness (and tastebuds) and put this charming Central Texas city on the map.
